Kodi Burns struggles in drop-back scenarios
No. 1 quarterback Kodi Burns struggled during Auburn's Thursday practice, which was devoted almost entirely to the passing game, .
Burns completed 7-of-19 passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns and an interception. Offensive coordinator Tony Franklin said the scrimmage format worked against Burns.
"It's a whole different set of dynamics of a ballgame when you're playing touch with a quarterback like (Kodi Burns)," Franklin said. "He's dynamic when he can run and pass. He's not as dynamic if all we're doing is dropping back and throwing every play."
Touchdown for Carr: Receiver Quindarius Carr, a former Huntsville High standout, caught a 3-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the scrimmage. He finished with two catches for 22 yards.
Carr also had a touchdown pass in Auburn's first spring scrimmage on March 1.
Ramsey out for spring: Sophomore offensive guard Chaz Ramsey won't return to contact work this spring because of a back problem, Tuberville said.
"(Ramsey) went to the hospital last week and got checked out," Tuberville said. "He had an epidural to take inflammation out. They're going to treat it like that for a while. Having back problems myself, I know how painful that is. He could be playing right now if it wasn't spring. We want him back to 100 percent. He wants to get back, but he won't get in this spring."
Lester sits out: Senior Brad Lester, Auburn's only healthy tailback, did not practice Thursday. That left only walk-ons lining up at tailback. Lester, Ben Tate and Tristan Davis are expected to return to practice after spring break.
Statistical leaders: Tommy Trott caught four passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns in the scrimmage. Montez Billings and walk-on Charles Olatunji caught five passes apiece. Terrell Zachery caught four passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns.
On defense, linebacker Chris Evans made 11 tackles. Tackle Sen'Derrick Marks had three sacks.
