Burns gives thumbs up to new offense
Freshman Auburn quarterback Kodi Burns gave an enthusiastic endorsement Saturday to new offensive coordinator Tony Franklin.
"It's exciting that he's the type of guy that loves to throw the ball," Burns said. "He's a real guru on offense. I'm excited and I think a lot of guys on offense are excited, too."
Franklin, known for his no-huddle spread offense, was named Wednesday as the replacement for Al Borges. He was offensive coordinator at Troy the past two seasons.
With senior Brandon Cox struggling early in the season, Kodi Burns got significant playing time and was the starter against Mississippi State. He ran mostly from a version of the spread offense. Kodi Burns ran exclusively from the spread in high school in Fort Smith, Ark.
"We actually ran pretty much the exact same system in high school he was known for at Troy," Kodi Burns said.
Tigers 'get a lot done'
The Tigers worked for more than two hours Saturday morning, their second practice in preparation for their game against Clemson in the Dec. 31 Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta's Georgia Dome.
"We got a lot done," Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said. "We still stuck with fundamentals. We did a little bit of Clemson."
Tuberville said it is still uncertain how much of Franklin's offense Auburn will use against Clemson.
"We are putting a little of Tony's offense in, kind of mixing in what we feel like we can run both ways," Tuberville said. "It was a good day of practice. Everything is going good."
Bosley gets a pass
Junior center Jason Bosley missed Saturday's practice to be in his brother's wedding. He will return to practice this afternoon.
Senior quarterback Brandon Cox, who missed practice Friday to attend a funeral, was back on the field Saturday. Senior offensive tackle King Dunlap suffered a twisted knee but is expected to return to practice today.
